There is not a day that goes by that I don't think about the life I used to lead. I am finally repulsed by all the things of my past. I never thought I would be blessed enough to get this point. I thought everything would be a huge struggle every day into forever, (Alright I am finally gonna use the one word I hate more than any other) but it truly is a "tender" mercy on the lords part that I don't have any of the life sabotaging tendencies nor the desire to repeat them each and every day.
To be honest I have always liked my church, and deep down have always known it is true. I would like to add that being born into the covenant and being a member of our church from the day I was born gave me my roots. Without my parents raising me with this firm foundation I strongly believe I never would have made it to this point in my life. And now in 3 days I will be in the temple. I don't know if looking back to where I was a year ago anyone, let alone myself would have believed I would ever make it to the temple.
I am so excited that this day is here, and that I finally realized with A LOT of time and hard work YOU really can change! Who knew you don't have to act or be what someone makes you out to feel like, or what you feel labeled as for past mistakes. You are more! Believe it or not you can change, and actually find real lasting happiness. I am glad I finally took that leap of faith and realized that I AM MORE then the sum of my past mistakes, and that even I deserve to be happy and enjoy life.
Temple and Eternal Happiness here I come.
Below is a song that has become a fast favorite of mine. I can't count how many times I felt like this girl in the song, but now I finally got it. Hope you will take a second to really read the words, i even have this song on my blog, hope you will listen to it.
YOU ARE MORE
There's a girl in the corner
With tear stains on her eyes
From the places she's wandered
And the shame she can't hide
She says, "How did I get here?
I'm not who I once was.
And I'm crippled by the fear
That I've fallen too far to love"
But don't you know who you are,
What's been done for you?
Yeah don't you know who you are?
You are more than the choices that you've made,
You are more than the sum of your past mistakes,
You are more than the problems you create,
You've been remade.
Well she tries to believe it
That she's been given new life
But she can't shake the feeling
That it's not true tonight
She knows all the answers
And she's rehearsed all the lines
And so she'll try to do better
But then she's too weak to try
But don't you know who you are?
You are more than the choices that you've made,
You are more than the sum of your past mistakes,
You are more than the problems you create,
You've been remade.
You are more than the choices that you've made,
You are more than the sum of your past mistakes,
You are more than the problems you create,
You've been remade.
'Cause this is not about what you've done,
But what's been done for you.
This is not about where you've been,
But where your brokenness brings you to
This is not about what you feel,
But what He felt to forgive you,
And what He felt to make you loved.
You are more than the choices that you've made,
You are more than the sum of your past mistakes,
You are more than the problems you create,
You've been remade.
You are more than the choices that you've made,
You are more than the sum of your past mistakes,
You are more than the problems you create,
You've been remade.
You've been remade
You've been remade.
You've been remade.
You've been remade.
Katie, what a beautiful post! I absolutely love that song. I listen to KLOVE all the time, and that is one song that has stuck out to me, too. I wish that everyone who has ever been in a situation where they felt like they were too far to come back could hear those words and feel the Spirit moving them towards Christ. We all need Him every single day of our lives.
ReplyDeleteMerri told me last month that you were headed towards the temple and I am so happy for you. I can't believe it's in just a few days. Congratulations on making it there--we are all proud of you. Your friends and family love you. You are a beautiful person, and have a beautiful life to live. Your future is so bright!
Thank you for your example of choosing to "makeover" your life and being open about it. You are inspiring, you have a beautiful story & I love you for it!
I have always felt that the hardest part of the repentence process is forgiving ourselves. Satan wants us to continue to feel like trash and worthless so that we won't want to change and truly use the atonement. I am so happy you love yourself as much as we all love you! You have so much to look forward to and this huge step is only the beginning to your endless happiness and success. I love you Katie...you make me so happy for so many reasons!
ReplyDeleteKatie! I love you so much! I can't wait till Saturday! We are SO excited to be with you in the Temple. It will be such a special day. And what a beautiful song! A great reminder to all of us! Love you sweet girl!
ReplyDeleteI'm totally blog-stalking you! I am wanting some pictures of this weekend! ha ha Anyways, amazing post! Your words hit close to home. I'm so very happy and exited for you!
ReplyDeleteKatie you are and continue to be an inspiration. You bring tears to my eyes and joy to my heart. Thank you for overcoming your challenges and sharing your testimony with us.
